Emily Yankowitz is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Yale University. Her dissertation examines how early Americans understood the concept of citizenship from the American Revolution to the 1850s. More broadly, she is interested in how political and cultural practices were used to define the boundaries of “American” nationhood and identity. She holds an MLIS (Archival Management Concentration) from Simmons University, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, generously supported by the Paul Mellon Fellowship, and a BA in History from Yale University.
