Hampton Smith, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Hampton Smith is doctoral candidate in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art and Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is completing a dissertation, “Making against Slavery: Artisanry, Capitalism, and the Material History of Abolition in the United States, 1791-1902.” Currently, he is a fellow at the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University, and, for the spring 2025 semester, will be the Andrew Mellon Fellow in African American History at the Library Company of Philadelphia.
