Awards

The McNeil Center offers several awards in recognition of scholarly accomplishment in the field of early American studies.


The MCEAS Dissertation Prize: Awarded to an exceptional dissertation, completed within the last two years, concerning any aspect of the histories and cultures of North America in the Atlantic World from 1492 to 1850. The prize includes $1,500 in research funds, a book contract with Penn Press, and a manuscript workshop at the McNeil Center. This prize is jointly awarded by the Center and Penn Press.


The John W. Murrin Essay Prize: Awarded to the best article published in Early American Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal each year.


The Zuckerman Prize in American StudiesAwarded to the best dissertation connecting American history with literature and/or art. This prize includes a cash award of $2,000.
 

Research Associate: Awarded to scholars residing in the Philadelphia area who wish to benefit from the research resources of the University of Pennsylvania while participating in the Center’s academic community.
