Tanner Allread is a Ph.D. Candidate in History at Stanford University. He studies nineteenth-century Native American history and the history of Federal Indian Law. His dissertation focuses on constitutionalism and state-building in the Cherokee, Muscogee, and Choctaw nations prior to Removal and the development of the concept of tribal sovereignty in American law. He holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
